Examples of OPP's Development Work

Practicalities & Possibilities

A new 18 month development programme developed in partnership with Helen Sanderson Associates and the Centre for Policy on Ageing, and funded by the Lloyds TSB Foundation with contributions from CSIP and in Control. This programme is working with 9 sites across England to make person centred thinking and planning work well with older people. July 2007-December 2008.

Circles of Support

A two year development project funded by a Department of Health section 64 grant, exploring the benefits of and practical methods for adopting a ‘Circles of Support’ approach with older people. This included training and support for older people (and staff working with them) to identify and fulfil their personal goals, wishes and dreams, and the personal and social networks to assist them. The work took place between November 2003 and June 2005 in two locations (Portsmouth and Oxfordshire). 

Moving Out of the Shadows

MOOTS is the umbrella term for our joint work on promoting better mental health and wellbeing in later life with national and local partners across the UK including: BGOP, UK OPAG, Help the Aged, Local Government Association, CSV, Cambridgeshire County Council and Trafford health and social care services. Ongoing since 2003.

Working with Romanian NGO's and Local Authorities

To support the development and implementation of guidance on community care planning for disadvantaged groups including older people. 2004-05.

Project management support to HOPDEV (the Housing and Older People Development Group)

An independent body supported and sponsored by the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department of Health (DH). HOPDEV has advised Government on older people’s housing issues since 2001, when it was set up to help Government deliver the Strategic Framework linked to Quality and Choice for Older People’s Housing.  OPP was appointed to support HOPDEV in a project management capacity March 2005-June 2006

Reviewing and supporting the development of mental health services and systems

For older people in Knowsley; Camden; Surrey; Bolton; Bedfordshire and Luton; Plymouth; Tower Hamlets; Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland; Devon; Portsmouth; Barnet; Barking; Newham; Spelthorne and Hounslow; West Cheshire and the Wirral.

Whole system development and reviews

A number of separately commissioned projects aimed at improving public services for older people and developing positive ageing strategies, with a focus on health, housing and social care, e.g. service configuration work in Portsmouth and Devon; and the development of a commissioning strategy for long term care across Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham; developing intermediate care service systems in Sussex and the Wirral; supporting the development of Older People’s Partnership Boards in Dorset and Nottinghamshire.

UK Older People’s Advisory Group and the BGOPAdvisory Committee

Development support and strategic facilitation including the preparation and implementation of three year investment programmes and business plans.
