Dr Gillian Granville is Director of Gillian Granville Associates, a health policy and evaluation consultancy, and a Senior Research Fellow, at the Centre for Research on Ageing at the University of Southampton.

She specialises in working across organisational systems to translate research and policy into improving services and spreading innovation in practice. She has extensive experience at national level in policy formulation and implementation, the use of evaluation and action research to effect change, and engaging the public and users of services in service improvement processes at a local level. This strategic experience is underpinned by a doctorate in older women’s health, delivering public health policy in the Department of Health and grassroots working in the NHS, local authorities and non - governmental organisations.

Gillian’s more recent experience in ageing has focused on midlife adults, and identifying how this key transition time can improve the health of men and women in later life, and reduce inequalities in health. She led the setting up of the pre-retirement initiative from the NHS Plan, which informed the current Government initiative for midlife life checks. She has also recently completed a review of the evidence on ‘Older Men, Work and Health’, commissioned by Help the Aged and TAEN.
