About us
The Older People’s Programme works with local, regional and national partners across the UK to improve services for older people; influence policy and practice; share learning and information about good practice; and support the continuous development of public services.
OPP was established in February 2001 by the then Institute of Applied Health and Social Policy (IAHSP) at King's College London. Early work focused on supporting the implementation of the newly published National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People (March 2001), but this soon broadened out into wider public service and system development and research, reflecting broader issues such as active ageing and policies across all public services. In 2003, IAHSP closed and its constituent development Programmes sought alternative organisational homes. OPP is now an independent research and development agency, hosted by the Charity Help and Care. Our main office is based in Bournemouth but our network and programme of different projects span the UK.
Our work is varied and wide ranging but a central theme in all we do is the inclusion and participation of older people in developing public services that take account of their aspirations as well as their needs.
OPP works with a lively and diverse network of experienced Associate Consultants, all of whom have a national profile and are based around the UK, including older people working at a national, regional and local level.
